We got off to an early start at 05:30 from Malelane with Dave Austen and Johan Schultz driving. (Linda’s husband. Having met him previously I got to know the man a little better. With the threat of Covid-19 (Corona virus) being the subject on almost everyone’s mind, Johan was prepared for a Hygienic trip and a fully stocked “Kitchen for in case”. (Dettol Wet-wipes, hand sanitizer and all).

It was another hot Lowveld day as I set off to Malelane from Marloth Park near Komatipoort for another trip to Zimbabwe. I was so looking forward to the trip as I get an opportunity to re visit some sites and reminiscent of the country we love and left behind. I also get to see…
The first trip for 2020 has just been completed by Dave Austen who did the round trip and Hannes Botha who assisted with the stock purchases and packing of the boxes in Zimbabwe, he also does all the Bulawayo and surrounds deliveries. A huge thank you to both for all your work and effort. Please enjoy reading the trip report along with some of Dave’s adventures.
Firstly let me say wow – Can you believe that Hannes has been taking up food to pensioners in Zimbabwe now for 18 years. One man with a dream – Incredible if I must say so. For those who have been supporting us for a long time you have seen the regular trip reports, read all about the challenges, trials and loses we have had.
If it wasn’t so sad it would be comical. Between Bulawayo & Louis Trichardt (Mikado) we saw 9 or 10 broken, stacked, well overloaded trailers, at the roadside, all with collapsed axles and wheels, or in some way disabled by their massive loads. I don’t believe Mr “Venter” had these volumes in mind when he designed these vehicles. He couldn’t have foreseen that the lack of mechanical mastery, a skimpy knowledge of basic physics, a great determination and appalling desperation would combine to ultimately test his equipment at this level.
With everyone’s amazing support we managed to get all our Golden Oldies adopted for Christmas this year.

With the Solar Light drive and its success, thanks to all Donors and participants, the Units distributed are still very much the talk of the towns centers, bringing communication to loved ones and light once to The African Sun Sets, as was said to me by a great number of folks, in and outside of the centers. They are tired and gatvol. They cannot live on promises not fore filled. Daily and without warning circumstances change, costs spiral out of reach, for not only the older folks, but the basic residents of Zimbabwe. What if any direction is the Country going?
It’s that time of the year again and we at the ZPSF would like to be able to make the upcoming Christmas of 2019 extra special for our pensioners. As a Fund we rely solely on donations to do what we do. We receive no funding from any Government organization.
