Dear Friends and Supporters of the Zimbabwe Pensioner Support Fund,
We have been supporting pensioners in Zimbabwe for the past 19 years and are hoping you could possibly do a story about us and how this all came about. Helping us to continue helping the pensioners in Zimbabwe, especially now with their current crises.
Just a quick update on what we are up to and our August trip report. We always say hope for the best, but prepare for the worst… some things cannot be prepared for, you have to wing it, this was one of THOSE. Please enjoy the read.
“Our previous 3 weeks were beyond hectic, we finally received our new updated Ease of Movement letter from the Zimbabwe Department of Trade & Commerce. With this valuable piece of paperwork in our hands we were up, ready and rearing to go.To find out more about our Trip please read the attached report. “
Hannes, our leader and chief is doing well. Fighting the good fight and still continuing with his chemo and treatment. As we all know there are good days and bad days, ups and downs but he is still in good spirits and very positive. We would like to thank everyone for the well wishes and prayers received so far. He is a firm believer that this will not get him down and he is trying to carry on living as normally as possible. And yes as always he is still keeping all of us on our toes!!
We have 2 trips left for the year keeping in mind our BIG one (The Christmas Magic trip) is coming and we need to start planning and purchasing soon for it. As we have literally just arrived back in SA give me a week or 2 and I will be sharing the details and planes for that trip. I also apologize for the past 2 weeks outstanding Thank Yous. Today is our last day being busy with the current deliveries and we are hoping to send out our thanks over the weekend.
Also Thank You to all the volunteer drivers who contacted Johan – The Zimbabwe Pensioner Support fund has an urgent need for Volunteer Drivers to assist us at various times with either the Bakkie or the UD90 Truck when we are busy with our deliveries. Once Covid-19 restrictions are eased we also welcome C0-Pilots to join the drivers as well. We have 8 trips per year and can desperately do with extra drivers, even if its one trip a year. This gives you a chance to meet our Golden Oldies and bring a bit of cheer to their lives and you get to see Zimbabwe again.

These trip reports and updates are our way to let the World know of and show their support for our Golden Oldies still in Zimbabwe, whom we have been helping to support with food aid parcels and basic medical supplies for over 19 years. Especially more so during these crazy times. Our Golden Oldies are part of an era that no longer exists, they stayed behind showing faith in a system, that not only let them down but totally ceased to exist. They have lost everything, farms, homes, life savings and in a lot of cases hope. This is where you come in, with your donations we show them that people all over the world still care about them. They may not necessarily be friends or family but there is a worldwide network of supporters who make what we do possible. The situation in Zimbabwe is reaching crises point at one heck of a rate and no one is being left untouched by the situation.
The total amount of homes / organizations we are currently aiding is 26 in total, and we cover most of Zimbabwe, concentrating on the homes that are mostly out of the way and thus don’t get much support / aid. We also aid BHN in Bulawayo and helped to set up a system similar to SOAP Gweru, Zvishavane, Mutare, Masvingo, Red Cliff, Kwe Kwe and Kadoma to cater for pensioners that are not in old age homes as well. We are also supporting the CFU in aiding destitute farming pensioners. We are helping to support between 1000-1100 pensioners in Zimbabwe. We currently take up food parcels every 6 weeks or so, to do this the costs run about 350k. There are quite a few groups that try to help the pensioners although according to our knowledge we are the largest. At this stage we supply food parcels as well as basic meds, walking aids, wheel chairs.
These food hampers serve 2 purposes.
1 They supply much needed food to the pensioner.
2 The pensioner then knows that someone cares about them
We are an officially registered Non-Profit Organization and Section 21A in South Africa and are registered with SARS as a Public Benefit Organization in terms of section 18A the Income Tax Act (Which means all South African donations are issued with a Tax Certificate and can be claimed back). PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE A TAX CERTIFICATE STATING ALL YOU DONATIONS. PLEASE NOTE THEY ARE ISSUED BASED ON OUR FINANCIAL PERIOD SO THE CURRENT ONES ARE FOR MARCH 2020-FEB 2021. They will be issued once our Financial Year End has been processed, so from about mid-April 2022. UK supporters can be issued with a Gift Aid Certificate via Betti-Ann McLean and the USA account is now a Registered 501(c)3 organization and as such Tax-deductible receipts available for USA donors via Alice Short.
Thank you so much for helping us support our “Golden Oldies” during these very difficult times. Your support is invaluable to us and us at the ZPSF would never be able to sustain our regular supply of relief parcels if it were not for donations such as yours. Your continued donations are a very important life line to them reminding them that we are continuously thinking about them and still care. All of this happens because of people like you, our Donors ensure our wheels keep turning, you are all truly amazing. THANK YOU and God Bless.
