Dear friends and supporters,
Sorry for the mid month message but we have been having one heck of a time here at head office and I would like to keep you all updated.
Firstly we would like to apologize for the late thank you’s and slow responses to emails received both Johan and myself ended up in catching the lovely Covid-19 and were totally man down as such the office and all operations were at a standstill for just over 2 weeks and the last week or so we have been running ragged organizing for at least partial deliveries of the double boxes to be done for our first trip for 2022. The balance of the boxes on the round route and Bulawayo should commence by the end of the week. However we are at least back up and at it, albeit a little slower than usual.
We also had some serious issues with our 5year cross border permit applications as they decided to go online the day we sent in our applications (17th January) and then proceeded to have “Technical” difficulties. So at this stage we are just waiting on the courier to collect and deliver to us.
So as you can see never a dull moment.
We have also had notification from Alice Short our “angel” who started the ZPSF-USA account for us that she is wanting to retire and we need to find a new President and Board of Directors (minimum of three) to be named by 1st April,2022. Or we will have to provide notice that ZPSF-USA will be winding down and no longer be a valid non-profit in the USA as of 1st April,2022. (Keeping in mind that one of the primary factors to originally establish ZPSF-USA was to enable donors from the U.S. to get a tax deduction on their income taxes. Recent changes to USA tax laws have resulted in significantly fewer individuals who benefit from the tax deduction. That means that for most of the USA donors, instead of sending donations to ZPSF-USA, they may as well send their funds directly to ZPSF and reduce one layer of PayPal fees. Then the pensioners benefit more) Please guys from the USA I would seriously appreciate all your input with regards to this so that we can make the correct decision.
Due to the current circumstances in Zims we are going to be doing – DOUBLE FOOD PARCELS EVERY 2,5 MONTHS this year. This means that we will be delivering 10 boxes this years. Almost a box a month. In previous years it has been 6 boxes a year and then last year we migrated to 8 for the year. However the situation for our Golden Oldies is just getting tougher to survive on the absolute basics. We are aware of the current shortages and all the help and aid needed and are doing the best we can with what we have. The current estimated cost of a single trip is about R450000.00. This once again makes my job as fund raiser for the Fund a lot more challenging this year. But I am looking forward to it and know and have faith all our supporters of our Golden Oldies will help me meet this challenge.
Approximate Dates: 10 February 2022 2 Boxes (Supposed to be 25 January – Delayed)
10 April 2022 2 Boxes
14 June 2 Boxes
22 August 2 Boxes
04 October 1 Box
End November 1 Box (Super Christmas one)
We have had a lot of queries as to what do we need.
- What we need is funding as all products are bought in Bulk so that the goods sent up are standard.
- Do you have a contact who can sponsor products
- Do you have a contact who can sponsor products that are shop soiled or due to expire
- Do you have a contact who can supply us with a discount when goods bought in bulk (Keeping in mind we are situated in Malelane in Mpumalanga)
- Funding / sponsorship for vehicle maintenance & Tyres. The latest service in the UD90 was R38000.00 However this was her annual major dealership service where she got checked from tip to toe. We are going to be needing new tyres for the next trip.
- Also PPE’S for Covid protection – Face masks, gloves, disposable aprons, hand sanitiser, maxisan (Disinfects communal area and kitchens), multi vitamins and so on.
- Please feel free to share our emails and posts far and wide. The more people that are aware of the situation faced by our Golden Oldies the better.

“Self-satisfaction makes life worth living. We live in a world that encompasses a major share of the poor and downtrodden. Each person may have a different need in his/her life. While some yearn for success, some don’t have the most basic amenities such as a shelter or enough food to eat. But that’s not all, some people may be in need of mere affection, those who are longing to see smiles. We are lucky to be living a comfortable life. How good it will be if we try to bring smiles to those sad faces? Generosity is an easily doable exercise. We all must remember one thing that helping others is a blessing in disguise. Because when we help others to grow, we grow in the process too. It adds value and meaning to our lives.”
