Please find in good order our very delayed February trip report to give you a perspective of how our trip went, as well as what we are up to at the moment and various other important changes that are happening.
Please everyone who knows, has ever met Hannes Botha our Golden Oldies hero and founder of the ZPSF, he needs our prayers and thoughts now more than ever. He has put up a brave fight against the Cancer but is at a critical stage. He has now been in hospital for more than 10 days. We love and appreciate you more than words can ever say .
While we are trying to keep a solid work schedule, this is also a crucial time for us as a family to spend time with Dad the “Boss”, so please understand there are delays but we are doing what we can to carry on at this time.
Words shared by Lionel Frost on Facebook- “Hannes Botha, ex-Northlean and founder of Zimbabwe Pensioner Support Fund, is critically ill in hospital.
Hannes underwent surgery for abdominal cancer in January 2021, and has had several rounds of chemotherapy since then. He has not been able to return to “active duty” during this time, but the work has not stopped. ZPSF continues to provide vital food, medical supplies, and pastoral care to their hundreds of clients in Zimbabwe, the effort ably led and coordinated by Hannes’ daughter Linda Botha Schultz, who is battling her own health issues all the while. They have ten trips planned for 2022.
Hannes has been a courageous and tireless worker for the impoverished elderly in his home country, and Linda is now asking for prayer on behalf of the family, their little army of volunteers, and their clients.”
As we have now entered a new financial year we are currently busy preparing for our double box April trip and this means bulking up on stock once again. We are also taking into account the current world crises and purchasing as cheap and as much as we can. This means sending up the stock to Zims in preparation for packing of the boxes. We have current purchased all the stock required for the upcoming trip except for Nespray powder milk, 2 Min Noodles and the Soya.
We are always on the lookout for volunteers to travel with us, get the hands on experience, grind the mill and get excited enough to promote our efforts. It is not good to travel these distances alone but the need is greater than the risk. Please avail yourselves and come along. It’s not a picnic or a holiday but you do have fun. We are also in desperate need of volunteer drivers for the trucks. Need a Code 14 license and valid PDP (Public Drivers Permit). Please we have run out of Wheelchairs, walking Aids and Crutches so please if you can help us with any of these items we would greatly appreciate it.
We are once again focusing on contingency plans for all the “incases” that could happen in Zimbabwe during 2022. We are keeping breast of the building tensions and delicate situation for the last while, so that we can plan our way forward. The situation in Zimbabwe is dire for everyone not just our pensioners, please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers. As everyone is more than well aware I am sure the cost of food has gone up dramatically over the past few years and we are constantly being contacted with new names of pensioners that desperately need our help. Your support is our sole source of income and we are doing the best we can with what we have, however we are at this stage just managing to support the current 1050 Golden oldies on our list. With so many still needing our help.
On behalf of the ZPSF and all our Golden Oldies we would like to take this opportunity to Thank Alice Short for her many years of faithful service towards our Golden Oldies. She has been absolutely amazing in helping with fund raising and then ensuring the funds get to SA safely and ready to be used towards our destitute Golden Oldies in Zimbabwe who struggle daily for survival. Alice started and registered the ZPSF-USA branch in 2014 as a measure to help the USA citizens receive a Tax Credit and maximise the support towards the pensioners. Running all the administrative duties, advertising, promotions, thank you letters, receipts, and money transfers by herself and for all of this we will forever be eternally grateful.
Over the years we have managed to grow the USA support base considerably, which means more aid going towards our Golden Oldies, and as time has gone by and the situation worsens the additional funding is a HUGE help.
We wish Alice all the best in her retirement and future endeavours.
